Vilakazi – What Riveiro Told Me Ahead Of Carling Cup

Kaizer Chiefs young midfielder Mfundo Vilakazi has revealed what Jose Riveiro told him ahead of Saturday’s Carling Black Label Cup with the PSL All Star team.

The 17-year-old scored the opener as the All Star team won 2-1 over Carling Knockout Cup champions Stellenbosch FC at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The Chiefs development side player trained with the first team before their DStv Premiership match against Richards Bay last month as preparation for the cup but is yet to make his first team debut at his club.

Speaking after the match Obrigado, as the youngster is affectionately known, was proud of his performance also sharing what coach José Riveiro said to him before the match.

“I made people proud just like I do in the MDC, I was able to make them proud at a higher level,” he told SABC Sport after the match.

“The coach told me to not be scared when I have the ball, to keep it and do my thing, pass and not be scared and just play like how I do in the MDC.

“I was so happy when I scored and it helped me settle in the game but that’s what I do, it’s small waters.

“When we arrived in camp on Wednesday we spent time together with the guys. We’d sit together when we got some free time and ask questions how is it like at other clubs like Pirates and that built a good relationship between us as players, especially Jabulani Mokone who I shared a room with.

“We talked about how people have faith in us and how we need to repay that and we were able to do that today.

“My hope for 2024 is to make my senior [team] debut”
