10-man Chiefs Hold Stellies, Bucs Draw & Downs Claim Win

Kaizer Chiefs remained top of the table after playing to a 1-1 draw with Stellenbosch FC while Orlando Pirates were held to a 2-2 draw by Cape Town City and Mamelodi Sundowns narrowly beat Polokwane City 1-0.

Chiefs shared the spoils with defending champions Stellenbosch in a hot afternoon at Idas Valley Sports Ground with Naledi Hlongwane opening the scoring for Amakhosi in the 42nd minute. Chiefs were reduced to 10 men as Tony Mbunga was sent for an early shower in the 57th minute. Quwaan Plaatjies then equalized for Cape Winelands side for a share of the spoils.

Pirates left Cape Town with a point with Mehluleli Maphumulo and Moses Mphekgoane scoring the two goals for the Buccaneers. In-form Shakeel April and Heaven Seeretse scored for City as Bucs fell further down in their title hopes.

In a six-goal thriller, SuperSport United played to a six-goal thriller against TS Galaxy in their 3-3 draw at home as they remained in fourth place while Bernard Parker’s Galaxy had a good season finding themselves in sixth place with 40 points.

On Sunday, Thulani Zandamela scored the only goal for Sundowns who beat Polokwane City 1-0 and moved to third place with 48 points, seven points behind Chiefs.
