AmaZulu have confirmed they parted ways with DStv Diski Challenge coach Reneilwe “Yeye” Letsholonyane, as first reported by iDiski Times.
Letsholonyane, who joined the DDC team at the beginning of the season, left his side in second from bottom after seven defeats on the bounce, leaving them just seven points after 14 matches played.
They have won only twice – beating Moroka Swallows and TS Galaxy, respectively. They have lost 11 matches, just one less than bottom side Polokwane City, with the Limpopo side sitting three points behind Usuthu.
On Monday, Usuthi confirmed the news broken last week by this publication.
“AmaZulu Football Club and reserve team have announced the termination of their working relationship with Reneilwe “Yeye” Letsholonyane, who served as the head coach of the reserve team. This decision comes after a year-long stint with the club, during which Letsholonyane contributed significantly to the team’s development,” read the statement.
Youth Technical Director, Celokuhle Mbanjwa, stated, “We needed to make a change within the DDC ranks because obviously the results were not coming, but we also felt we needed a new energy in a different perspective in terms of the head coach. We also then felt that we want to assist Yeye by relieving him off the duties of coaching while he also reassesses his development as a coach.”
Despite the decision to part ways, AmaZulu expressed gratitude for Letsholonyane’s contributions.
“We are very happy with the work that he did. It’s just unfortunate that we weren’t getting results,” Mbanjwa added.
“We appreciate the input and value that he has added to the team. He has given youngsters an opportunity and debuts where he gave the likes of 15- and 16-year-olds Obama Mhlongo and Aphiwe Buthelezi an opportunity.”
U19 Head Coach and former club midfielder, Andile Cele takes has taken over the reins. On the weekend, Yeye was already not on the bench when AmaZulu lost 3-1 to Chippa United.
