Asidlali Title Race Going Down To The Wire

The Asidlali title race could go down to the wire as Stellenbosch FC, Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are all in action this weekend.

Stellies opened the league title race wide last weekend after beating Sundowns by 2-1 at Idas Valley Stadium.

The Cape Winelands side ended Sundowns’ seven-match winning streak and close their gap to just two points. The 2022 DStv Diski Challenge champions will welcome 15th-placed AmaZulu FC and have a chance to go to the top of the table before Pirates and Sundowns play.

The Bucs dropped to fourth place after failing to collect the maximum points last weekend for the fourth consecutive time. Pirates last won a match in February when they defeated AmaZulu by 3-2 at Rand Stadium. They have a chance this weekend to redeem themselves against struggling Moroka Swallows.

Chiefs saw themselves back into the title race after winning five of their last seven games including a Soweto Derby against Pirates. Amakhosi are sitting third, just six points behind table toppers Sundowns with six games to go. They will face party poopers Cape Town Spurs on Sunday morning. Spurs beat Pirates and Stellenbosch in the space of a month.

Regardless of the results on Saturday, Sundowns will be under massive pressure facing Chippa United on Sunday morning, but they will know what is needed from them to keep their top spot. Masandawana aims to bounce back after Stellenbosch’s defeat last weekend.
