Kaizer Chiefs maintained their perfect start in the DStv Diski Challenge after defeating Richards Bay away from home, while Siwelele shocked defending champions Orlando Pirates and Lamontville Golden Arrows humiliated Chippa United.
Chiefs’ game went into the break goalless before Amakhosi scored in the second half through new signing Lesia Keitumetse, which was enough to seal the three points and secure three wins on the bounce.
Meanwhile Siwelele had a huge task at hand facing defending champions Pirates. The Sea Robbers took the lead in the first half through Junaid Vlotman. Just before half-time Lucky Muthewi equalised for Siwelele and the game went into the break all square. After an hour Lebohang Mobe scored the second goal for Siwelele to put them in front 2-1 which was enough to seal the three points.
Golden Arrows had their best performance in years after going into the break leading 5-1 against Dan Malesela’s Chippa United. Abafana Bes’thende led by Zandile Fikizolo came out guns blazing in the second half and scored another four goals while, Chili Boys scored one to make it 9-2. It meant back-to-back defeats for Malesela, while Arrows registered their second win of the season.
Kwandile “Diego” Gumede was the standout player, netting an incredible five goals for Abafana Bes’thende.
AmaZulu dropped two points away from home against TS Galaxy in their goalless draw. Although Usuthu remain unbeaten this season, they were overtaken on top of the log by Chiefs.
