CT City Star Leads DDC Golden Boot Race

The DStv Diski Challenge golden boot race is already heating up with three Cape Town City players, including leader Cee-Jay Bezuidenhout, all in the race after nine games played so far.

Bezuidenhout leads the goalscoring chart with eight goals after eight games played for City followed by his teammate Shakeel April who is sitting on seven goals even though he missed two weeks when he went to represent South Africa’s U20 squad in the COSAFA Cup which they won.

The Citizens are currently the highest-scoring team in the league with 29 goals, which doesn’t come as a surprise with their two forwards going on each other for that top goal scorer award. There are five players behind the two City players who are sitting on six goals.

Khumo Matlala of TS Galaxy, Sphamandla Msezane of Orlando Pirates, Mogamat Abrahams of Stellenbosch, Kearabilwe Mphahlele of Sekhukhune United and Thulani Zandamela of Mamelodi Sundowns. The list is closed by four players who are sitting on four goals.

SuperSport United striker Keenan Bezuidenhout, AmaZulu FC midfielder Tebogo Mashigo and South Africa U20 and Citizens striker Jody Ah Shene.

Orlando Pirates striker Boitumelo Radiopane still holds the record for the highest number of goals scored in a single DDC season when he netted 24 goals in 27 matches back in 2021/22. With teams reduced to 15, it remains to be seen if any of the current players will be able to break that record.
