DDC Champs Stellies To Face EPL Sides

DStv Diski Challenge champions Stellenbosch FC will represent South Africa at the Next Generation Cup in the United Kingdom next month.

The Young Maroon Army won the reserve league for the second time in three seasons, and will now be jetting off for their second European Tour following their impressive DDC title win under the stewardship of head coach Evangelos Vellios.

Their third international trip will see them rub shoulders with teams from England and India in the tournament that will be hosted by the Premier League from 01-04 August 2024.

“The competition will run over four match rounds, held at Aston Villa’s Bodymoor Training Ground, with two groups of four clubs playing each other before proceeding onto a final fixture based on table positions to close the tournament,” a press release from the PSL read.

“This will be held at Loughborough University Stadium in England where this year’s winners will be crowned. All matches will be 11-a-side encounters playing out for 50 minutes long, divided into two 25-minute halves.

“All matches of the NextGen Cup will be streamed lived on the SuperSport Schools App with selected fixtures also broadcast live on the SuperSport Schools channel (216).”

The young Stellenbosch team led by the Devin Titus, and featuring players like Antonio Van Wyk and the late Oshwin Andries went on to win their first Next Gen in 2022 in England, when they beat Leicester City in the final.

A year later, in India, they reached the final again, but lost on penalties to Wolves.
