DDC Title Not Too Far Off For Chiefs Now

The DStv Diski Challenge is now a four-horse race with Kaizer Chiefs, Stellenbosch FC, Mamelodi Sundowns, and SuperSport United the only teams in the race ahead of this weekend tricky fixtures.

Last weekend’s results confirmed that from position five of the league table they are all out of the title race including Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City. Sundowns, SuperSport United, and Stellenbosch are mathematically still in the conversation even though it’s not in their hands. Amakhosi are in the driving seat.

The Sugar Ray Xulu hosts this weekend’s humdinger where Richards Bay welcome defending champions. The Cape Winelands side could be in for a surprise as the Natal Rich Boyz have proved to be a tough side to play against despite their on-and-off performances.

SuperSport United will then lock horns with struggling Golden Arrows. Matsatsantsa are currently 10 points behind league leaders Chiefs and anything less than three points won’t be enough. Arrows who have won one of their last nine matches will look to get revenge after losing 4-0 in the first round.

On Sunday, Sundowns take on bottom dwellers Chippa United who have conceded 62 goals, more than any other team this season. Sundowns will also need to win this tie if they are to keep themselves in the title race conversation.

League leaders Chiefs will close the day when they face Bernard Parker’s TS Galaxy. Should Chiefs win this game it will automatically eliminate SuperSport United out of the title race, and push Amakhosi closer to their first-ever DDC title.

With the saga of Chiefs and Chippa still ongoing, this publication has reliably been informed that Chiefs are on the verge of being handed a walkover against the Chilli Boys which will see them go four points clear at the top with a game in hand on second-placed Stellies.
