Downs Put Pressure On Stellies With 6-0 Hammering

Mamelodi Sundowns hammered Moroka Swallows 6-0 to go top of the DStv Diski Challenge table and put pressure on Stellenbosch FC.

Downs needed to win by more than four goals to keep their chances of winning the league title alive. But the game got off to a slow start and went goalless into the half-time break.

But Sundowns came a different side out of the break, starting bright at the beginning of the second half, Siyabonga Mabena opened the floodgates of goals to make it 1-0.

In the 56th minutes Kutlwani Letlhaku made it 2-0, and four minutes later Keabetswe Ramotsei made it 3-0. Ramotsei completed his brace just three minutes later to make it 4-0. Letlhaku completed the second brace of the match to make it 5-0 after just 70 minutes.

Jerome Karelse puts the final nail in the confirm to make it 6-0 after 86 minutes.

Sundowns are now sitting on 66 points with goal difference of +36, meanwhile Stellenbosch are also on 66 points with goal difference of +34.

Stellies have more pressure now, as they need to avoid defeat against Lamontville Golden Arrows if they are to clinch the title. The Cape Winelands side are on a good run of 10 wins in 11 matches.

Both sides have won the DDC title before, Downs won it in 2017/18 season. Stellies won it with the very same coach in 2021/22 season.
