Kaizer Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge head coach Vela Khumalo admits their change in approach where they switched to a 4-2-3-1 system paid dividend in their huge win over Cape Town City.
City had gone for over a year without suffering a defeat at home but that all changed this past weekend as Khumalo’s charges put in an impressive display to run out comfortable 3-0 victors.
Amakhosi went into the break with a comfortable 3-0 lead with Khumalo explaining to iDiski Times how the downfall City was planned tactically. The change of formation from a back three to a back four saw them going into the break with a 3-0 lead.
“With us, most of our games are always on TV, so all these teams have a way of dealing with us,” Khumalo told iDiski Times.
“Because they see us on TV, because it’s City and they are doing so well obviously they are going to analyse our game, they have our games as much as we do have their games.
“I think we only saw one game and we’ve been trying to get the clips, but we then said, he is a smart coach I respect him, and I know that he cannot just come and approach us the same way he has been approaching the other teams.
“So, I thought let’s change a little bit and play the 4-2-3-1 which I think it was impressive.

“It has now given me a headache to say how do you go about 3-4-3 and 4-2-3-1 but football players they must be flexible whatever the tactical approach that we bring in they must adjust to it and play.”
