Kaizer Chiefs reserve side head coach Vela Khumalo has explained the inclusion of Donay Jansen in the team and why he was played in defence instead of his natural striker position.
Jansen returned from SuperSport United where he spent a season on loan. The 22-year-old didn’t have much game time at United’s senior side and featured more in the reserves side, but competition was stiff there with Siviwe Magidigidi on form also.
Speaking to SuperSport TV after the 1-1 draw against Sekhukhune United, Khumalo mentioned that Jansen played the full back position to get him back to a level they want him also so that he returns to the senior team when the ideal time arrives.
“We all know he was a top goal scorer the previous season and he was with the first team side, so he did not get game time,” Khumalo said.
“And the reason why we played him where we played him as a right full back, wing back, it was for him just to get game time and push him so that he can always go back and play in the first team when the time comes.”
