It was a tough start to the European tour of Orlando Pirates’ DStv Diski Challenge champions, as they were hammered 5-0 by the U21 team of Dutch side SBV Vitesse.
The Buccaneers are currently in the Netherlands on their “Winners Tour” after lifting the 2025/26 DDC title – the first in the club’s history.

After the visited the famous Johan Cruiff Arena to watch the Eredivisie match between Ajax Amsterdam and SC Heerenveen on Sunday, they kicked off their series of friendly matches on Tuesday.
But it was a tough outing for Roscoe Krieling’s side, as they already conceded the opener after three minutes.
According to the league’s official Asidlali account, Pirates found themselves “outmuscled and outmanoeuvred” and conceded the second goal in the 23rd minute.
Just two minutes later, it was 3-0 for the hosts, with Pirates only finding their feet a bit in the latter stages of the first half.
The young Buccaneers started better into the second half but their attempts at a comeback were basically over when Oscar Gqeke was sent off in the 65th minute.
Vitesse extended their lead just a minute later with a well-taken free-kick, and even found the fifth in the 76th minute.

The young Buccaneers will return to action on Thursday when they will face De Graafschap before ending the tour with to games on Saturday against Sparta Rotterdam and Yamanashi Gakui High School.
