Orlando Pirates beat Stellenbosch FC 3-1 to dent their title hopes in the DStv Diski Challenge, while Mamelodi Sundowns dropped points for the second consecutive match after a goalless draw with Richards Bay.
After suffering a 3-2 loss last weekend at the hands of Cape Town City, Sundowns wanted to bounce back quickly, but they were held to a goalless draw by the stubborn Richards Bay at Tuks Stadium. With nine games remaining, Sundowns’ title hopes have been shuttered and their faith is no longer in their hands, as they sit five points behind leaders Stellenbosch but have a game in hand.
At Isak Steyl Stadium, Pirates brought themselves back into the title conversion after a comfortable 3-1 win over Stellenbosch. Siphamandla Msezane scored the opening, taking his goal tally to 13 goals. After an hour of football, Neo Mokoena made it 2-0 and two minutes later Puleng Bapela scored the third one to make it 3-0. Stellies pulled one back to make it 3-1.
With Kaizer Chiefs, who didn’t play this weekend, being two games behind, their faith is now on their own hands – should they win both games they could go four points clear at the top and be on the driving sit.
Results:
– Mamelodi Sundowns 0-0 Richards Bay
