Stellenbosch FC have won the 2023/24 DStv Diski Challenge title after coming back from two goals down to beat Golden Arrows 4-3.
The day started with a 6-0 hammering by Sundowns of Moroka Swallows, with Sinethemba Badela’s side needing a win by four goals to move ahead of Stellies in the log.
The ball was now in Stellies court, who needed a draw to clinch their second DDC title after 2021/22.
However, they found themselves 2-0 down at half-time against Golden Arrows. But Evangelo Vellios side kept on piling on the pressure in the second stanza and equalise in the 66th minute through Mervin Boji.
But when it looked like the title was in their hands, an own goal by Simthandile Sishi against the run of play completely put the game on it’s head, leading to wild celebrations by Sundowns’ DDC players in the stands.
Stellenbosch, though, showed their title credentials and came back to win the came thanks Boji completing a hat-trick to send them into seventh heaven.
The win saw Stellies end the 2023/24 campaign on 69 points, three ahead of second-placed Sundowns.
