Round 17 of the DStv Diski Challenge kicked off at Soshanguve’s Giant Stadium with Stellenbosch FC dropping points against TS Galaxy, but going top of the table after Mamelodi Sundowns beat Orlando Pirates.
Yet another epic weekend of Asidlali with the top two dropping points allowing Sundowns and Sekhukhune United to get closer to the mix. Stellies dropped points against struggling Galaxy but still managed to go top of the table.
A first half goal from Thabang Makubo was enough to end Kaizer Chiefs three match winning streak. Amakhosi missed a chance to close the gap on top. Zachary Taitz played a vital role between the sticks to make sure that SuperSport United walks away with maximum points and he was rewarded with a ‘Man Of The Match’ award.
Both Cape Town Spurs and Cape Town City dropped points away from home. The Urban Warriors lost 2-0 to Lamontville Golden Arrows and City played to a goalless draw with struggling Moroka Swallows.
The DDC festival at Giant Stadium closed off with 10-man Sundowns grabbing a last-minute winner through Onela Rurwana, scoring his fourth of the season, to beat Pirates 1-0.
Stellies are now one point ahead of Pirates, while Sundowns join the Bucs on 35 points, but are third due to goal difference.
