On-form Siphamandla Msezana opened the scoring after the 32nd minute before Moses Mphekgoane increased the lead just before half-time to make it 2-0 and the game finished like that, which saw Pirates move to sixth place.
Marumo Gallants won their first match of the season, beating Magesi 3-2 in a five-goal thriller. AmaZulu extended Bernard Parker’s TS Galaxy winless run to five matches after beating them 2-1.
Sundowns ended Chiefs’ 11-match unbeaten run after beating them 2-0 at FNB Stadium. On-form Onele Rulwana scored first for Sundowns in the 25th minute before Kutlwano Letlhaku extended the lead in the 38th minute to make it 2-0.
