Sundowns Return To The Top, Spurs Dent Chiefs Title Hopes

Mamelodi Sundowns have returned to the top of the DStv Diski Challenge table after spending 24 hours in second place, while Cape Town Spurs dented Kaizer Chiefs’ title hopes.

Masandawana came into this game knowing well that anything less than a win won’t be enough for them after Stellenbosch beat AmaZulu FC yesterday. The Tshwane-based side scored two late goals to earn all three points and moved two points clear.

Spurs continue to be giant killers as they hammered Chiefs 3-1 and dented their chances of winning their first-ever DStv Diski Challenge league title. Amakhosi remain in fourth place with 47 points and nine points behind Sundowns.

Cape Town City were the big winners on Sunday after hammering Royal AM 8-0 and moved to fifth place. City are currently the highest scoring team in the league with 56 goals, three goals ahead of Chiefs. Luphumlo Sifumba and Luke Daniels scored hat-tricks and Emile Witbooi grabbed a brace.

Sunday results:

Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 Chippa United
Kaizer Chiefs 1-3 Cape Town Spurs
Cape Town City 8-0 Royal AM
Polokwane City 1-1 Lamontville Golden Arrows
