The highly anticipated DStv Diski Challenge Soweto Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates was called off due to bad lightning, according to Match Commissioner Patrick Marametsi.
Amakhosi were looking to claim top spot while the Buccaneers were on course to claw themselves into the chasing pack as the reserve league continues to heat up.
The match was scheduled for a 15:00 kick off on Sunday afternoon but was delayed at least three times before eventually been abandoned at 15:45.
After several delays, Marametsi eventually confirmed that after consulting with the referee, they came to a conclusion to call of the match as Mother nature had taken its course.
“We looked at the radius again, it was just under 2km,” Marametsi told SuperSport TV.
“And you can see this cloud is really above us which poses a safety risk, and I’ve actually had a discussion with the referee, and he said he’s gonna abandon this match due to the lightning which is not subsiding at all.

“Just above us, it’s unfortunate. This is Mother nature.”
