Ba Bina Noko Into Third Place

Sekhukhune United have moved up to third position on the DStv Premiership log after their 2-1 defeat of Orlando Pirates at the Peter Mokaba stadium on Saturday evening.

Vusimuzi Mncube scored a wonderfully orchestrated team goal, which was started by Jamie Webber then played to Captain Linda Mntambo who then set up the 30-year-old for his second of the season in the 32nd minute.

The hosts had a few chances at goal early on, notably in the 16th minute by Webber, who shot into the Orlando Pirates keeper.

Pirates could have also taken the lead within the opening 20 minutes but their decision making let them down. In the 28th minute Relebohile Mofokeng found Kabelo Dlamini who, shot wide and over the bar.

In the second half Pirates showed some urgency at their attempts to get back into the game and they won a free-kick two minutes into the half. Dlamini stepped up and took a powerful shot but was denied by Badra Ali Sangare.

However, it was Sekhukhune who extended their lead when Elias Mokwana found Mntambo, who tapped home to make it 2-0 in the 50th minute.

The celebrations didn’t last long, as Tshegofatso Mabasa pulled one back for the Buccaneers five minutes later. Mofokeng could have levelled late in the game but was denied by the goalkeeper.

This is Ba bina Noko’s fifth successive win in the league and the two sides are now equal on 33 points but Pirates fell to fourth place due to an inferior goal difference – they have also played one more match.
