Barker – It’s important To Start 2024 On A Real High

Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker is looking for a good start to 2024 when they face SuperSport United this evening.

Barker’s team had a strong finish to 2023, including winning the Carling Knockout trophy, their first major silverware, and are currently fourth on the DStv Premiership table after a good run of four straight league wins.

A victory over third-placed SuperSport by two goals or more could even see them jump to second, as they are currently three points behind Cape Town City, who occupy that spot, and SuperSport, who are behind City on goal difference. Stellenbosch also have a game in hand over City and SuperSport.

Barker said the team are keen to get back to competitive football, and is also pleased to have Jayden Adams back after the Africa Cup of Nations.

“Preparations have gone well for this evening’s match,” Barker told the club’s media department.

“We’re really eager to get back on the playing field after not having played for a while. I believe we’ve prepared well over the last couple of weeks and the team is in good spirits.

“It’s also good to welcome Jayden Adams back after his succesful trip with the national team. He’s raring to get back on the field for us and make an impact.

“We have good momentum coming into this match from the previous four wins in a row we recorded in the league, so it’s important to start 2024 on a real high with a big performance and a good result against a difficult opponent.

“Confidence is high that we can achieve that and preparations have been good, so now it’s just time to get on the field and execute.”
