Baroka Confirm Release Of Youth International

Baroka FC chairman Khurishi Mphahlele has confirmed that youth international Athenkosi Dlala’s contract has been terminated due to serious off-pitch issues.

Dlala joined the Limpopo-based side at the beginning of the season from GladAfrica Championship side University Of Pretoria. However, the former SuperSport United youth player only managed to make 14 appearances for Baroka this season.

Mphahlele confirmed that they parted ways with the 24-year-old midfielder after discipline issues, which the chairman described as serious but didn’t want to disclose the exact nature.

“Yes, we’ve released him,” Mphahlele told Thabiso Mosia on SAfm’s SportON.

“There’s an internal matter, we don’t want to disclose the reason, we can’t disclose the reason. Yes, there was an internal process, he was released last month.

“We can’t part ways with someone if it was not serious. No, it’s not the issue with me, not an issue with the club, he’s got an issue with himself.

“You know there are offences that you can say there’s no need for the first and the second, and there are offences when someone does those types of things, you don’t wait for him to do it again, it’s very much serious.

“There’s no way that we could assist him. You need a specialist to assist somebody, you can’t assist someone if you are not a professional.

“It’s difficult, it’s very much difficult because what he did, he needs professional help and you need time, you can’t do it overnight, you need a time-frame which we don’t have in football.

“Yes, it’s up to him and his agent to treat him, to take him there and must be treated well. Yes, his agent is aware.”

Baroka will continue their survival fight this coming weekend when they face SuperSport United at Peter Mokaba Stadium, anything less than a win won’t be enough for the Limpopo-based side.
