Downs Midfielder Returns To Bolivia National Team

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Erwin Saavedra has returned to the Bolivian national team squad after a two year ‘hiatus’.

Saavedra is currently on loan at Bolivar from Sundowns after he failed to cement a regular starting berth at the Chloorkop-based outfit under the watchful eye of Rulani Mokwena for the past two years.

He joined Masandawana in 2022 from Brazilian club Goiás after much fanfare, but failed to live up to expectations, making just 10 appearances in the DStv Premiership and CAF Champions League altogether.

Since joining Bolivar earlier this year, the 28-year-old has already notched up 559 playing minutes for the Bolivian outfit in all competitions. His loan move to Bolivar, which could turn into a permanent deal, has worked hugely in his favour as he returned to the national team after two years.

Saavedra has made nine appearances since his return to Bolivar and impressed the Bolivian coach ahead of the friendly match against Mexico in the upcoming FIFA International break.

Bolivar seems interested in making the deal permanent as they focused on their participation in the CONMEBOL Libertadores. They are one point away from securing their spot in the knockout stages.
