Hunt On Moving Within Two Points Of Sundowns

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt says they won’t get ahead of themselves after moving within two points off league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

After their embarrassing 4-1 Carling Knockout exit at the hands of Polokwane City, Matsatsansa have bounced back with impressive wins over Royal AM and TS Galaxy.

The latest was the five-goal thriller at Mbombela Stadium as Bradley Grobler netted the winner while Lyle Lakay netted to stunners in the 3-2 win.

“Well you enjoy the result because it’s a win away from home, but I didn’t enjoy the performance, I think it’s unlike us to concede goals like that but then the [refereeing decisions], it’s decisions I haven’t seen in a long time,” Hunt told iDiski Times.

“The way [the game] was handled wasn’t good, you know… it is what it is, we won and that’s the most important thing.”

The four-time league winner says moving closer to Sundowns, albeit, having played two games more is not something he’s paying too much mind to, rather the focus is getting the best possible teams on the field in the congested fixture schedule.

They will travel to the Peter Mokaba Stadium to face Rise and Shine and Sekhukhune United now in the space of four days before the FIFA International Break hands them a reprieve before the trip to Egypt to face Future FC in the CAF Confederation Cup.

“I’m not worried about that [being two points behind Sundowns]. We just have to try with what we’ve got and what we’re achieving, we’re limping, we’re limping, so… we have so many players out, again we’ve lost three left-backs now, so I don’t know,” he explained before opening up on the displays on experienced duo Bradley Grobler and Lyle Lakay.

“Lakay obviously, I put him in the starting line-up after being left out a couple of times now, so he did well and got on the ball for and was good,” Hunt continued.

“[I will] give him [Grobler] a break, he won’t train this week, patch him up next week and go again. We have three away games in a row, well four, we go to Africa, Egypt as well – I don’t know how we gonna do it but I’ll worry about that next week.”
