Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye believes Amakhosi will collect a win over Orlando Pirates in Saturday’s Soweto Derby.
The player-turned-pundit has experienced the derby himself after breaking into the first team at Amakhosi as a teenager.
“I’ve played in three derbies, at a young age. [I was] 17, 18 years,” he told iDiski Times when asked about his own Soweto Derby experience.
“You can go to the national team, but the derby is something else. You don’t need motivation for the game, you first touch is vital.
“If you score you are a hero.”
Both Chiefs and Pirates enter the game coming off mixed results. While Chiefs won their first game after three defeats, beating Cape Town Spurs 3-2 – the first win under interim coach Cavin Johnson, Pirates also returned to winning ways in their 1-0 over Sekhukhune United, ending their four-match winless run.
Khanye, though, believes it will be the home side, who will keep the three points on Saturday at FNB Stadium.
“The score is going to be 2-1, Kaizer Chiefs is going to win,” he told this website.
“It will be the second win for coach Cavin Johnson. I believe Thembinkosi Lorch is going to score for Orlando Pirates, but Chiefs goals are going to come from midfield.
“I saw a lot of improvement under Cavin, but a lot of work still needs to be done.
“Pirates will approach the game with two holding midfielders, Timm and Monare, they will be conservative and predictable.
“Kaizer Chiefs is going to score two goals, Pirates is going to score one.”
Chiefs currently sit in seventh place on the DStv Premiership log, with 14 points from 11 games, while Pirates are 10th, with 12 points from nine matches.
The game kicks off at 15:30 at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
