Makaringe Breaks Silence On City Move After Bucs Exit

Former Orlando Pirates attacking midfielder Fortune Makaringe has explained why he opted to for a move to Cape Town City, admitting that the club’s style of play was a key decision to join them.

Makaringe, 31, joined the Buccaneers in July 2019 from Maritzburg United, going on to have a trophy-laden career that saw him win three MTN8 and two Nedbank Cup trophies, notching up close to 150 features for the club, scoring 10 goals with nine assists.

With his contract set to come to an end on June 30, Makaringe made the switch to the Mother City after Pirates opted not to extend his contract beyond June 2024, as first reported by iDiski Times.

Makaringe joins his former coach Eric Tinkler, who he worked with during his time at the Team Of Choice back in the 2018/19 season.

“Things that are similar to Europe at Cape Town, especially Cape Town City, the culture and diversity. You can tell by the way they welcomed me,” Makaringe told the club’s media team.

“What attracted me the most, is their style of play. I think that’s one key component that each and every player actually looks for in a team.

“Given the opportunity and with everything that we have when working together, it can also bring out the best out of me.

“The fans can expect a very high spirited person. A team player, most importantly a team player. I firmly believe that when one of us wins, we all win, so we need to work together in everything.”

Makaringe also revealed that the family atmosphere at his new club played a role in his move.

“What keeps Fortune Makaringe going, has to be a lot of factors, but one that stands out the most, is family,”

“I was thinking of where to move. I would observe and actually realize that Cape Town City is a really family oriented team.

“For me and my fans that are now City fans, we keep going. We go for everything. I am Fortune Makaringe and I’m City FC.”

Makaringe became City’s third official signing after the arrivals of Haashim Domingo and Kayden Francis.
