Martin Coy On Mabiliso Suspension

AmaZulu coach Pablo Franco Martin did not want to comment when asked if left-back Sibusiso Mabiliso would ever play for the club again.

According to iDiski Times sources, Mabiliso was suspended after an alleged GBV incident and the club decide to sideline him from all football activity until further notice.

The left-back, who was at his best in the 2020/21 season before leaving to join Kaizer Chiefs, has also not covered himself in glory as he has now and again caught under the influence of alcohol.

The 24-year-old appears to have been frustrated at the club over his the lack of game-time due to the form of Riaan Hanamub, who has arguably been the best full-back in the country in the past two seasons and has made the left-back position his own.

This has led to Mabiliso having just featured in two matches, all coming from the bench.

“I think the club has already made a statement about that and I have nothing else to add,” said Martin when asked by iDiski Times.

Mabiliso, who initially joined Usuthu in the 2017/18 season from Platinum Stars, played most of the side’s PSL games in 2020/2021, making 24 appearances overall under Benni McCarthy, as AmaZulu had their best PSL season in finishing second behind Mamelodi Sundowns.

That led to him catching the eye of Chiefs, who signed him for free ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Then Usuthu coach McCarthy was concerned that Mabiliso was not ready to join Chiefs, saying he needed another season to truly establish himself as the best left-back, having shown glimpses of that, while his departure also infuriated Usuthu president Sandile Zungu.

As McCarthy predicted and his former boss, it didn’t work out for him at Chiefs, with Mabiliso featuring in just six matches and one as a starter in the 2021/22 season under coach Stuart Baxter.

At the end of the season, the Chiefs management sat down with the player and decided to terminate his contract. However, Mabiliso amended his relationship with Usuthu, who brought him back after the last campaign had started.

Usuthu will host Royal AM in the last game of the 2023 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday (17:45).
