Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has explained why the club didn’t extend the contract of Surprise Ralani.
Ralani had a spell of 18 months at Sundowns where he won various trophies, including two league titles. The former Cape Town City winger left Downs after his contract expired and has since joined Cape Town Spurs.
Mokwena shared some of the reasons of Ralani leaving the club, but also revealed that he rated him highly.
“Ralani’s issue was quite complex because, we decided to together that we wanted to take [a different route], unfortunately also considered that Ralani’s end of his contract,” he told Andile Ncube on Metro FM.
“And of course when you look at his age in relation to the direction that we wanted to take also maybe with regards to the length of the contract that was proposed, the club felt it didn’t really meet and move both parties maybe in this moment all three parties.
“I have to say two things about Ralani which maybe a lot of people don’t know, the first thing is that probably Ralani is in the top three, if not close to number two technically the best players I’ve coached.
“He could do things with the ball that I’ve never seen some players being able to do. One of the best.
“The third I have got incredible appreciation, maybe we’ve never really gotten the opportunity maybe this is the chance to thank him for everything he has done for the football club and his contribution that he had over his stay at the club.
“One of the players that I’ve enjoyed coaching. As I’ve said there’s a lot more to stay in the football club and the coaching wanting you.”
