New Bafana Star – Why I Switched From Supporting Chiefs To Downs

AmaZulu and Bafana Bafana midfielder Mlondi Mbanjwa has revealed why he switched to supporting Mamelodi Sundowns after growing up as a Kaizer Chiefs fan.

Mbanjwa, 25, recently received his first senior national team call-up having, impressed at his club in his 19 appearances this season so far.

The 25-year-old spoke to iDiski Times writer Lethabo Kganyago in edition 149 of the newspaper where he revealed how everybody in his family, especially his father, is a Khosi fan.

However, he ended up switching sides to Masandawana because of their style of play.

“I grew up supporting Chiefs,” Mbanjwa told iDiski Times.

“But as time went, I decided to support Sundowns especially because of how they play. I like how they play.”

Mbanjwa then went on to express his happiness over the recent praise he received from Amakhosi legend Doctor Khumalo after making his Bafana Bafana debut against Andorra.

“Yoh that made me so happy [Doctor Khumalo praise],”

“It really made me happy, especially because my parents have been looking up to the person when I was still growing up.

“My father is a huge soccer fan, especially Kaizer Chiefs. So that was something amazing.”
