Nyatama Praises Swallows Players After Off-Field Issues

Moroka Swallows head coach Musa Nyatama praised his troops after showing a good display in 2024 despite all the off the field issues.

Swallows had financial issues late last year resulting in players going on strike and the club not being able to honour their fixtures against Lamontville Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns, which were ruled as 3-0 defeats against them.

Early in January it was reported that they released over 20 players, and, while some returned on different renumeration, they were also looking to get new players to finish the season.

However, head coach Steve Komphela and star midfielder Andile Jali were among those who parted ways with the club.

Despite all the issues before the resumption of the league, the Dube Birds have managed to collect eight points in the new year and survived automatic relegation, resulting in Nyatama praising his side for punching above the weight.

“The players have done well so far, after all the difficulties that we faced starting from January where we were docked six points,” Nyatama told iDiski Times.

“We could not play two games so we never thought we could be where we are but we fight. Good technical team as well as good players.”

Swallows currently sit in 13th place with 29 points – 11 above bottom-placed Cape Town Spurs.
