Parker – What I Told Zungu After His Apology

TS Galaxy midfielder Bernard Parker has revealed he has forgiven Bongani Zungu for his tackle that led to his leg break and told him so after receiving an apology via Instagram.

Parker, 37, had a successful operation on his broken leg after a bad tackle by Zungu broke his leg in Galaxy’s Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final win over Mamelodi Sundowns.

Many onlookers were shocked by Zungu’s reaction to the incident, when he was seen wildly remonstrating while Parker was attended to by medics.

After the incident there was a public debate over whether Zungu should apologise for the incident and his antics, something he did privately as confirmed by Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena.

“An apology matters because you’ve broken somebody’s leg,” said Parker on Metro FM when asked whether the apology mattered to him.

“It can be anything, even if you lie to somebody, and somebody finds out, an apology matters. Even if he knew you were lying, an apology matters.

“But on my side, I’ve gone on. I’ve watched the video, I went on in pain, in suffering… I already see myself stronger.”

Parker also confirmed that Zungu sent him a message via Instagram, while Sundowns also tried their best to make him feel better.

“Let me be honest with you, I’ve got the apology via Instagram DM and I said ‘you’re forgiven’,” he added.

“Sundowns sent flowers and a card. And Rulani [Mokwena] spoke to Mr. Petersen, saying please send my regards to Bernard I was trying to call him, please tell him speedy recovery.

“For me that’s enough. I’ve moved on. For me, I’m already on the next path.”
