Pirates & Chippa Utd Starting XIs Announced

Orlando Pirates and Chippa United have announced their starting line-ups for this evening’s DStv Premiership clash at Orlando Stadium.

Pirates look to extend their winning streak to seven matches when they will face Chilli boys. The Buccaneers recently eliminated United out of the Nedbank Cup, beating them 3-1 at Nelson Mandela Bay.

Bucs have a chance to go closer to second-placed Stellenbosch and keep their chances of qualifying for CAF Champions League alive. The in-form Pirates last lost a match at the end of March and have been unbeaten in seven games since, winning six across all competitions.

United have a lot to play for, having lost their last two league matches, which saw them drop out of the top eight. The Eastern Cape-based side have 32 points after 26 games but could leapfrog Kaizer Chiefs in eighth with a win.

During the Nedbank Cup semis there was a lot of tension between the two technical teams, especially Jose Riveiro and Kwanele Kopo, with the latter claiming the Spaniard used “abusive language” towards him – a fact that Riveiro played down, saying the insults came from both benches.

These two sides faced each 23 times in all competitions, with Pirates winning 16 and Chipped four, while the other three fixtures ended in draws.

Here is how they line up:

Pirates XI: Chaine, Maela, Monyane, Xoki, Sesane, Mbatha, Makhaula, Maswanganyi, Dlamini, Mofokeng, Mabasa

Subs: Buthelezi, Ndah, Sibisi, Ndlondlo, Timm, Kapinga, Pule, Otladisa, Makgopa

Chippa Utd XI: Nwabali, Kammies, Poggenpoel, Chabalala, Makhele, Majogoro, Ntsabo, Kwabiya, Luthuli, Francis, Kambindu

Subs: Johnson Tyongwana, Malaoa, Nhlapho, Mqokozo, Pietersen Maarman, Mahlatsi, Ndwandwa
