Riveiro – Why Lepasa Has Less Minutes

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has explained why Zakhele Lepasa is featuring less than in the beginning of the season when he was in red-hot form.

Lepasa started the 2023/24 campaign in excellent form, scoring seven times in August and September, but has not found the back of the net since then.

It has seen him drop down the pecking order at the club, but Riveiro has said he is working hard at training to make sure that when he does get his chance, he finds his way again.

“Zakhele was scoring, he scored a hat-trick actually early in the season,” Riveiro responded when asked about Lepasa.

“He was in a really good space with a very high ratio of minutes played and goals, but we play with one striker, with one number nine, however you want to call it, and right now he was not in that space for a considerable amount of minutes.

“That’s why he’s not scoring in the games. He’s training well, he’s fighting, he’s trying to understand what are we expecting from him and each and everyone in his position, and working to make it possible when he has the opportunity.”
