Royal AM Closing In On 2 Signings

Royal AM are closing in on making their first signings of the January transfer window as they are concluding terms with Mthokozisi Dube and Samkelo Mgwazela.

Both players have been training with the club for some time, in the hope of securing moves.

Dube, who was on loan at Golden Arrows last season, has been without a club after he was released by Orlando Pirates at the end of 2021/22 and will join the club on a free transfer.

Mgwazela’s issue is not clear, as AmaZulu allowed him to train with Royal AM but he was not released from his contract completely.

In the agreement, AmaZulu said he can train with Royal AM and if they are happy with him, they can sign him either on loan or permanently. At this stage, it is not clear whether Royal AM are signing him permanently or whether it is a loan deal.

Meanwhile, Royal AM will not sign Luckyboy Mokoena, who has also been training with the club for some time just like Mgwazela and Dube.

Joseph Mhlongo, who was at Swallows and Black Leopards respectively, will not be signed by the club either and has also packed his bags.

“They (Dube and Mgwazela) are still with us and we are finalising their issues with the management,” said coach Abram Nteo.

“With regards to Mokoena, he’s no longer with us and he went back. But Dube is still with us and the management is finalising issues.

“Mhlongo, no, he’s no longer with us.”

Nteo elaborated further that he is happy with Dube and Mgwazela with what they have done so far.

“I’m happy with them and they have done very well,” said Nteo, who is now running things solo at the club after Khabo Zondo was redeployed as the Head of Development.

Meanwhile, Sibusiso Magaqa’s move has been finalised by the club and the player was seen in the club’s full gear on Tuesday when they drew with TS Galaxy at Chatsworth Stadium.

Royal AM are set to host AmaZulu, Mgwazela and Magaqa’s former club, at Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday (15:30). But, unlike last season, when they were so good at home, they have won just three matches this season.
