Rulani On Downs Future And Offers From African Rivals

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has insisted he will be at the club next season.

The South African tactician has been given the role of sole head coach of the club in October after the leadership opted to shake up the technical team following their exit from the MTN8.

Mokwena went on to win the DStv Premiership in a record-breaking manner, with seven games to spare.

However, Downs were knocked out by Stellenbosch FC in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final and by Wydad Athletic Club in the CAF Champions League semi-finals.

Despite those setbacks, Mokwena has widely been praised for revamping the club’s tactical system in their traditional ‘shoe shine and piano’ playing style.

Fans of the club are waiting to hear on the coach’s future, with his current contract running out by the end of June, but Mokwena insisted they don’t need to worry.

“The club will make an announcement, I can tell you I will be here next season but the club will make an announcement,” Mokwena when asked if he wants to stay.

“I love this club, I’m falling in love with it every single day, I feel loved and get incredible support from the football club, incredible support from the chairman, the Motsepe family, the entire family, the board.

“There’s a good relationship with the players and so what more can a coach want.”

With recent talk that Simba SC and Wydad Atheltic Club approached his representatives over a potential switch from Sundowns he simply stated; “I don’t know, but I don’t think my agent would lie to me, I don’t think he would lie to me.”
