Seven MTN8 Spots Confirmed

Seven MTN8 spots are already confirmed before the final day of the DStv Premiership seasn.

Mamelodi Sundowns extended their unbeaten run in the league to 51 games after beating Stellenbosch FC 1-0 at Athlone Stadium, while Orlando Pirates suffered back-to-back defeats.

The win also saw them break the PSL points record after they moved to 72 points, bettering the 71 Masandawana achieved under Pitso Mosimane in 2015/16.

The result offered Pirates another chance to overtake Stellies in second place, but the Buccaneers lost 1-0 to TS Galaxy, which meant they remained a point behind.

The win saw Galaxy move into fourth place, the CAF Confederations Cup spot after Sekhukhune United also lost 1-0 to AmaZulu.

Meanwhile, SuperSport United and Cape Town City secured their spots in the Top Eight after beating Richards Bay and Moroka Swallows 3-1 and 2-0, respectively.

There is only MTN8 one spot left up for grabs and for now, Kaizer Chiefs held onto it after holding Polokwane City to a goalless draw. But AmaZulu’s win over Sekhukhune saw them level both teams on 36 points.

At the bottom, Royal AM made up one point on Richards Bay thanks to a goalless draw against Chippa United, while Cape Town Spurs picked up a point at Golden Arrows.
