Stellenbosch & Sundowns Starting XIs Announced

Stellenbosch FC and Mamelodi Sundowns have announced their starting line-ups for this afternoon’s DStv Premiership clash at Athlone Stadium.

Stellenbosch suffered their first league defeat last weekend after 19 league matches unbeaten. The Caps Winelands side lost away from home to Moroka Swallows.

But, despite losing to Swallows, Stellies remained second on the league table after Orlando Pirates lost to Richards Bay. Steve Barker’s side have Sundowns in front of them, and need to keep all three points if they are to staay in the driving seat for CAF Champions League spot.

Sundowns aim to break the 71 points record of the 2015/16 season and they could do it this afternoon, needing three points out of nine points left to play for.

Downs have gone 51 matches unbeaten in the league, having last lost a league match against Supersport United in September 2022.

Rulani Mokwena has a chance to finish the league unbeaten with three games remaining. Downs recently knocked out Stellies in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals.

These two sides faced each other 15 times, Sundowns won 11 times and Stellenbosch won two while the other two matches ended as draws.

Here is how they line up:

Stellenbosch XI: Stephens, Toure, Moloisane, Van Rooyen, Basadien, Nduli, Adams, Palace, De Jong, Titus, Rayners

Subs: Masuluke, Mcaba, Sibande, Mgaga, Jurgens, Oura, Boji, Mini, Colley

Sundowns XI: Williams, Mdunyelwa, Modiba, Coetzee, Aubaas, Mbule, Allende, Zwane, Lorch, Nku, Shalulile

Subs: Pieterse, Mvala, Lebusa, Maboe, Esquivel, Mabena, Mendieta, Matthews, Morena
