Stellenbosch To Tie Down Veteran Goalkeeper

Stellenbosch FC are aiming to tie down veteran goalkeeper Lee Langeveldt for another year.

Langeveldt joined Stellenbosch in the 2017/18 season as a free agent after leaving Lamontville Golden Arrows.

The 37-year-old helped the side gain promotion from Motsepe Foundation Championship in 2019 and has been longterm captain of the side.

The former Santos goalkeeper won his first top flight trophy with Stellies, when they won the Carling Knockout Cup in December beating TS Galaxy on penalties.

Stellenbosch secured CAF football for next season despite losing to Moroka Swallows over the weekend after TS Galaxy dropped points against Cape Town City, meaning the Rockets cannot overtake Stellies on the log anymore.

The Cape Winelands-side aim to reward the veteran goalkeeper with a contract extension of one year, as he is expected to sign until June 2024/25.

Langeveldt only played once this season with Sage Stephens and Oscarine Masuluke playing as first-choice and second choice.

But the experience of Langeveldt has been highly praised by coach Steve Barker and how he helps the youngsters to gel into the team.
