Sundowns Drop Points In Tshwane Derby

Mamelodi Sundowns dropped two points in the Tshwane Derby after being held to a 1-1 draw by SuperSport United on Tuesday evening.

Matias Esquivel had the first real chance of the game when he wrongfooted Washington Arubi with a free-kick but his shot sailed on top of the net after 11 minutes.

Sundowns thought they had a penalty after 24 minutes when Thembinkosi Lorch appeared to be brought down inside the Matsatsantsa box but the match official instead gave Lorch a yellow card for diving.

The home side found the opener after 30 minutes thanks to another longrange strike by Teboho Mokoena.

However, Sundowns’ lead was short-lived with Bradley Grobler equalising just three minutes later after finding himself at the end of a Lyle Lakay free-kick.

Just before the break Grobler was calling for a penalty after a tackle by Divine Lunga, but the match official waved play on.

The second half was dominated by Sundowns without the home side being able to create too many clearcut chances.

The draw sees Sundowns extend their unbeaten run to 42 games, while they remained 13 points ahead of SSU, who are in third place, level on points with Orlando Pirates.
