Tinkler – How To Get Best Out Of Mayo Amid Broos Criticism

Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler has explained how to get the best out of striker Khanyisa Mayo after criticism from Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos.

Mayo, 25, returned to Bafana setup after continuing with his goalscoring form in the DStv Premiership.

The City striker was left out of the AFCON squad for the tournament in Ivory Coast and Broos stated after his recall to the current squad that he needs to step up.

Since the resumption of the DStv Premiership after the AFCON break, Mayo has scored three goals and took his goal tally to nine goals for the season, just one behind leading marksman, Mamelodi Sundowns forward Lucas Ribeiro.

Tinkler explained how Mayo can be used and explained the role that he is perfect on. The City coach believes that a challenged Mayo can do better than what he is doing currently.

“I think I’ve said this to the media before when Mayo works and works extremely hard and plays with a high intensity and is active in terms of his game, then Mayo’s a good striker,” Tinkler told the media.

“Now, Getting that out of him consistently that’s always going to be the challenge. You get that out of him by being on top of him, constantly got to be on top of him, constantly.

“But the good thing is he listens, he is always willing to listen.”

Mayo has another chance to impress Bross when Bafana face Algeria, although he might return to the bench, while City will Kaizer Chiefs in the next league game on Saturday.
