Usuthu Out For Revenge Against Pirates

AmaZulu FC head coach Pablo Martin aims to get revenge against Orlando Pirates after their Nedbank Cup quarter-final exit a week ago.

Usuthu last beat Pirates 11 year ago, and since then they’ve been struggling to get results against the Sea Robbers.

A week ago, these two sides had a go at each other at Moses Mabhida Stadium and Pirates came victorious beating Usuthu by 4-2 to advance to the Nedbank Cup semi-final.

Martin was left furious after that match because he felt the Buccaneers were awarded a dubious penalty to score the 1-1 equaliser just before the break.

But the Spaniard believes his side stand a good chance this time around, even though he understands the difficulties of facing Pirates in Orlando.

“Preparations are good so far, normal week, trying to recover ourselves physically from the effort we made on Saturday quarter-final,”

“And also mentally because when you’re playing such a good game and you’re feeling that you were better than the opponents in the many phases of the game with a lot of things happening, of course, everyone is disappointed and that’s something they have you have in your mind,” Martin told the media.

“But now we have an opportunity to play them again, it’s going to be an away game so it’s going to be more difficult, we know the difficulties of playing and the challenges when facing Pirates in Orlando Stadium.

“We already saw they are not only one of the best teams in South Africa but in the whole continent but the good thing we already faced them twice this season.

“In the first game, we got one point when they had more time to rest and prepare for the game.

“The second time in the same conditions [for both] as I’ve said we were really competitive, we played one of the best games of the season not only for us but I think it was one of the shows this season in the country.

“From there we know we are going to have possibilities when we do things we did so good in the other day and if we take advantage of the chances we are going to have and keep using their weaknesses, confidence is going to be there, tactically, technical, mentally we need with the ambition of beating them finally.”
