Vilakazi – A Miracle Is Pending

While they lost 3-1 to Cape Town City on Saturday, Richards Bay coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has not given up hope of avoiding the playoffs, and says ‘a miracle could be pending’ when they face Stellenbosch next week.

Vilakazi’s team are 15th, three points behind Royal AM, but if they were to win next week and AM were to lose to Moroka Swallows, Richards Bay would go above John Maduka’s team on goal difference.

Vilakazi knows Stellenbosch will be tough, so he was disappointed not to get anything out of the City.

Bay had initially avoided automatic relegation with a few good results since April and Saturday was just their second loss in their last seven games.

“Eventually we were having two targets, but the first one was to make sure that we’re not getting a automatic relegation, which we did very well,” Vilakazi told iDiski Times.

“And then our next project was to look at someone who is on top of us as to how many points and we had a chance today, had we won the game I think we would be on top of Royal AM because of the goal difference.

“But I think we should have capitalised on this one, but it was just not meant to be but we still have to fight.

“We still have to fight, you will never know what can happen, a miracle I think is pending for this league come next week.”

It will also be the last game for Sanele Barns, who is off to join Stellenbosch next season, but Vilakazi has said their key player this campaign, is the ultimate professional.

“No, no no, he did very well,” Vilakazi said.

“He’s a very professional somebody.

“I think obviously when you play Stellenbosch next week, they are a difficult team but we’ve played against other difficult teams like Pirates, but we won the game.

“So anything can still happen. I’ve heard that they lost the game today. So I think it’s the second one they losing now, so we will fight and fight till the end and we are playing at home – we have to be dominant and try to take advantage.”
