Western Cape Derby Re-Scheduled Over Stadium Dilemma

The Western Cape derby between Cape Town Spurs and Stellenbosch FC has been moved to 28th November at DHL Stadium after the stadium dilemma for the original date.

After a hustle to find a venue, Spurs nearly found themselves in a situation where they had to take the Western Cape derby to the another province due to lack of availability of stadiums in Westen Cape.

Two weeks ago, iDiski Times reported that the Urban Warriors were sweating blood and water as they struggled to find an available venue for their much-anticipated encounter against Stellenbosch.

The fixture was scheduled to take place on 28th October, but it all became a problem after they found out that Athlone Stadium will be hosting a female rugby event on that weekend and it won’t be available.

DHL Stadium, which was their back-up option, was also not available as they will be hosting ABANTU music festival by Zakes Bantwini.

Spurs then tried for Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch but it was also not available due to a rugby match that will take place there.

The Cape Town-based side even asked Nelson Mandela municipality for the availability of Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Eastern Cape but it was also not available as well.

Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaZulu-Natal was the last resort, but Premier Soccer League has now agreed to reschedule the match.

This publication understands that all parties agreed to reschedule the fixture to a month later, and it will now take place on 28 November at DHL Stadium at 19h30.
