Arsenal legend Ian Wright, who now works as tv pundit, has hailed the impact of Benni McCarthy at Manchester United.

McCarthy, 45, joined United ahead of the current campaign as first team coach, focussing on strikers and the overall attacking movement of the team after being roped in by Erik Ten Hag.

The former Cape Town City and AmaZulu coach has since received high praise from many of the players, fans and Ten Hag himself.

Apart from the Dutchman, the South African tactician is credited with Rashford’s massive improvement in front of goal this season.

The 25-year-old has already scored 21 goals in all competitions this season, becoming the first player to reach the 20-goal mark since Sir Alex Ferguson was at the club.

Following Rashford’s latest strike in a 2-0 win over Leeds United, Wright praised McCarthy for his work with the United forward.

“I think the acquisition of Benni McCarthy, a striker coach, has helped him as well,” he said on Match of the Day.

“Because Harry Maguire is saying about how hard he’s work since he’s come back, he’s worked very hard on his fitness and that.

“When you look at the movement for that goal – like Harry Maguire talking about how his heading has improved – when you look at the movement for that goal it was brilliant.

“And that says to me that someone like Benni McCarthy’s working very closely with him. He’s improved no end.”

United have lost just one of their 15 games since the FIFA World Cup break, with Rashford scoring 13 times since the tournament in Qatar – more than any other player in Europe’s top leagues.
