Premier League leaders Arsenal have announced the signing of Chelsea midfielder Jorginho.
The 31-year-old joined the Gunners on a deal until June 2024, which is understood to include an to extend it by one-year.
The Gunners were keen to add another midfielder to their squad to have more depth for their title push and opted for Jorginho after Brighton & Hove Albion rejected two bids for Moises Caicedo.
On Tuesday, Arsenal announced Jorginho’s arrival and confirmed he’ll wear the No. 20 shirt.
“Jorginho is a midfield player with intelligence, deep leadership skills and a huge amount of Premier League and international experience,” Mike Arteta said.
“Jorginho has won in his career, but he still has the hunger and huge willingness to contribute here.
“We are so pleased to sign Jorginho and welcome him and his family to the club.”
Jorginho joined Chelsea from Napoli in 2018 and was going to be out of contract by the end of the season.
Overall, he made 213 appearances for the Blues, scoring 29 goals and setting up nine more.
He comes with a lot of experience after winning the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup with Chelsea, as well as the 2020 EUFA European Championship with Italy.
