AmaZulu are close to releasing several of their players, with around 10 names on the club’s axe-list, as per iDiski Times sources.
Veli Mothwa, Mxolisi Kunene and Siphesihle Maduna are amongst the latest players, who are rumoured to be on their way out at AmaZulu.
The latter was sent off against Sekhukhune United on the 29 April at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, the only victory they recorded under caretaker coach Ayanda Dlamini, who has also been removed, according to iDiski Times sources.
Maduna, who has been linked with a move away for a while now, retaliated by appearing to swear at Kamohelo Mokotjo and referee Moses Kheswa impromptu flashed a red card.
He had just replaced Dumisani Zuma, who is also set to leave the club, in the 62nd minute and was red-carded just 17 minutes later.
As this publication revealed earlier on Friday, caretaker coach Dlamini, Rally Bwalwa, Gabadinho Mhango are also rumoured to be on their way out.
Thabo Qalinge and Hendrick Ekstein are two, who seem to be on their out, having been brought back by Romain Folz in the January after they were frozen out by Brandon Truter to train with the reserve team.
Team manager Qedi Dlamini, general manager Tshepiso Mofokeng and team scout Ayanda Mkhize are all gone, too.
Usuthu president Sandile Zungu is wielding the axe after his side finished in a disappointing 12th place in the Dstv Premiership with 33 points.
Last season the club released 15 players and this season the number might come close to that again after Keagan Buchanan, Lehlohonolo Majoro and Ramahlwe Mphahlele were the first to be demoted under Folz, when they were informed that they will not be part of the club next season.
However, after coach Dlamini was given the post until the end of the season in April, he brought all three players back and Mphahlele stood out of all of them.
iDiski Times was later informed that Mphahlele might see a u-turn of his fortunes at Usuthu, having scored in two consecutive games, in the 2-0 win over Sekhukhune and a 2-2 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Meanwhile, the much anticipated press conference that was going to take place today (Friday at 15:00), where Zungu was “going to review the club’s 2022/23 season as well as unveil plans for upcoming DStv Premiership campaign”, has since been postponed to Monday.
AmaZulu media officer Brilliant Mkhathini explained that the media briefing was postponed to Monday “due to flight delays”, with the new presser scheduled for 10:00 on 5 June.
As reported earlier, former Royal AM CEO Sinky Mnisi and former Orlando Pirates administrator Floyd Mbele have been linked with the club and could be unveiled during the press conference alongside a potential new coach.
