Bafana Squad For CHAN Announced

The Bafana Bafana squad to compete in next month’s CHAN finals has been announced by Molefi Ntseki.

With the competition set to take place at the same time as the domestic competitions in South Africa kick off, there had been several question marks over which players would be made available by clubs for the competition that is only open to those playing in their home nation.

With that in mind, it is unsurprising that twelve of the players named in the squad are currently free agents (this number includes Zakhele Lepasa, whose departure from Orlando Pirates has yet to be announced).

Mamelodi Sundowns have the most players in the squad, with five players from the Brazilians released for the squad.

The team is expected to assemble in Johannesburg tomorrow, before departing for the finals to be hosted in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Bafana are in Group C alongside Uganda, Niger, Guinea and Algeria, who they will face in their opening game on Friday, 8 August.

“We just want to take this opportunity to thank the SAFA Technical Committee for giving us the opportunity to lead this team in the Chan tournament. We have assembled a team that will represent South Africa in the CHAN tournament,” Ntseki said as per SAFA.

“We are in Group C and the team that we have selected is mostly composed of the players we started this journey with. So we are looking forward to the tournament and to do our best. We just want to say thanks to the clubs and to the coaches who managed to release players for our CHAN team to have a good squad going into the tournament.”
