Banyana Announce Starting XI vs Nigeria

Banyana Banyana and Nigeria lock horns this evening as both teams kick off their campaign at the 2022 WAFCON in Morocco, and this is how the teams will line-up.

The two African rivals, who are both favourites for this year’s edition, will be looking to kick off on the right note, and set the tone for the rest of the competition.

While over the years Nigeria has dominated the head-to-head encounters, in recent years Banyana have proven their mettle, and in fact have won twice and only lost once in the last five years, and that defeat was via a penalty shootout.

In their last meeting, Banyana surprised the Super Falcons, as they won 4-2 in Nigeria to lift the inaugural Aisha Buhari Cup.

Prior to that, the last meetings between the two were at the 2018 WAFCON, where the Nigerians were victorious in the final, winning that shootout to lift the trophy. They also met earlier in the group stage of the same competition, where Banyana won 1-0.

Burundi and Botswana are the other two teams in Group B.

Here’s how the two teams line-up:

Banyana Banyana XI: Dlamini, Ramalepe, Mbane, Matlou, Holweni, Jane, Mothalo, Cesane, Magaia, Kgatlana, Seoposenwe.

Subs: Swart, Gamede, Van Wyk, Smidt, Kogale, Kgadiete, Biyana, Moodaly, Ngobeni, Motau.

Super Falcons XI: Oluehi, Ohale, Plumptre, Onome, Payne, Oshoala, Onumonu, Chikwelu, Ajibade, Ayinde, Alozie.

Subs: Balogun, Monday, Kanu, Ogbonna, Okobi, Ikechukwu, Ordega, Efih, Ucheibe, N. Payne
