Simba SC head coach Steve Barker has hailed his troops for their grit and determination in their late away win to Singida Black Stars in the Tanzanian Premier League.

The Reds of Msimbazi remained in position four on the league standings but narrowed the gap on the chasing pack at the top after their 2-1 victory to move to 27 points after matchday 12.

Anicet Oura broke the deadlock just four minutes in for the visitors. Stars however pulled matters level in the 38th minute through Mossi Nduwumwe.

It was in the 84th minute that Barker’s charges got the winner through substitute Elie Mpanzu for the maximum points on the road.

Barker was full of praise for his players who showed character to come out with the positive result.

“Sometimes, you gotta work, keep pushing, keep believing, sometimes games are won late like we did today [Wednesday],” Barker told the club’s media.

“It was a challenging game; a difficult game for us but the players showed tremendous character, commitment to just keep pushing, believing.

“I told them sometimes games are won, you’ve got 95, 96 minutes, so today we won it late.

“It was good for Mpanzu to come in and get the late win for us.

“So, I think today we showed a lot of grit and a lot of determination, so very happy with the result.”

Simba next take on TRA United away from home on Saturday, 14 March, with a win taking them second, eight points behind leaders Young Africans, provided other results sway in their favour.
