Barker Predicts ‘Bright Future’ For New Stellies Star

Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker has predicted a bright future for midfielder Mthetheleli Mthiyane who joined the club this transfer window.

The 24-year-old signed for the Cape Winelands side from Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Milford FC.

Mthiyane was brought on board as the replacement of Sihle Nduli who went on to join Orlando Pirates when his contract came to an end last season.

Barker has praised the KwaZulu-Natal-born midfielder for the strong character, revealing the player played their last match while secretly mourning the death of his father.

He also commended him for his performances since arriving at the club.

“Mthetheleli has been superb for us, a great kid, good character, trains hard and works hard to achieve and have success,” said Barker.

“Testimony to his character is when we last played, he had lost his father and hadn’t informed anyone. He gave a big, big performance under those adverse [circumstances].

“When I said to him, you should have told us, we would have allowed you to go home, he said, ‘I’m here to work, I’m here make a living, and this is what I’m focusing on’.

“So, when you have players like that and you throw them in the deep end, and they come out strong like they have. I predict a I bright future for him.”
