Big Win For Baroka, Chippa & City Draw

In Vincent Kobola’s first match in charge, Baroka picked up a 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows, while Cape Town City missed a penalty as it ended goalless against Chippa United in DStv Premiership fixtures this evening.

It was a missed chance for City in Gqeberha, but Baroka fans will be delighted, as the bottom-placed team picked up a much-needed three points.

Chippa United 0-0 Cape Town City

It ended goalless between Chippa And City at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

It was a goalless first half in Gqeberha, with City arguably having the better of the opening 45. City were looking for the win to move above Royal AM, at least temporarily.

With fifteen minutes to go City were awarded a penalty after Craig Martin was brought down in the box. Having come on off the bench, Mduduzi Mdantsane stepped up to take the spot-kick, but failed to convert and went wide.

And it ended goalless, a missed opportunity for City, who remain unbeaten in the league in 2022 and moved onto 45 points, but remain third.

Baroka 1-0 Golden Arrows

Baroka picked up an important three points in a 1-0 victory over Arrows at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

It was a match between interim coaches, with Vincent Kobola on the bench for the first time for Baroka, while Vusumuzi Vilakazi and Mabhuti Khenyeza were in charge for their third game for Arrows.

Bottom-of-the-table Baroka were awarded a penalty on the half-hour mark after a foul by Siboniso Conco in the box. Bakgaka captain Bonginkosi Makume stepped up to take the spot-kick and put the home team into the lead, sending Sifiso Mlungwana the wrong way.

Kobola’s team went into the half-time break with a narrow lead.

Arrows were disappointed not to be awarded a penalty of their own in the 54th minute after Saziso Magawana went down in the box.

Arrows pushed hard for an equaliser, but Baroka defended bravely and were supported by a good debut performance from Jackson Mabokgwane in the Baroka goal.

Maritzburg host Royal AM in the remaining fixture today, kicking off at 19h30.
